It’s possible to enjoy a comfortable and fun RV vacation with your pets–as long as you properly prepare. Read on for advice for RV camping with pets!
Make a Pet-Friendly Space
Create a safe and secure space for your pet on the RV with all their favorite things and take them on board while it’s parked in your driveway to allow them to sniff around and become acclimated to the space. Have your whole family sit in the RV and offer treats or play with and stroke your pet to make them comfortable.
Practicing Road Safety
When you’re on the road, it’s vital that your pet be crated or in a carrier while the vehicle is in motion. You don’t want a loose pet to distract you while you’re driving and cause an accident. You’ll have to make more frequent stops with pets on board so that they can drink water, eat, walk around and relieve themselves. When at a rest stop, always keep your pet leashed to prevent them from running away.
Maintaining Routines
Interruptions or delays in feeding times, walk times and medication times can deeply unnerve your animals and they may start to act out in ways you weren’t anticipating.
Keep to your schedule of daily walks for your pet, give them their medications at the same time every day and don’t delay mealtime. Also, your pet needs access to a quiet place to sleep that’s out of the way so that they can retreat when they feel overwhelmed or tired.
